WATERCHaNGE stands for Water Action Team Encouraging Resource Conservation Holism and Next Generation Ecology.
As of April 21st, 2020 we have begun the process to formally file and structure WATERCHaNGE as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the state of Colorado in order to facilitate ongoing community funded projects as a fiscal host and sponsor. This process starts with the submission of articles of incorporation to the Colorado Secretary of State.
Currently we are receiving volunteer and resource contributions from community members and partner organizations in order to maintain operations. As the organization is established and determines needs for full time, salaried members, this will be accounted, budgeted and communicated clearly to all members. We will provide a clear and transparent view into the operations of WATERCHaNGE to the public. Our mission is create a facility for operational overhead that hosted projects use to allow project leaders to do the work they set out to do while allowing WATERCHaNGE to overcome the potential barriers that some overhead costs present to qualifying projects. By handling the administrative and management overhead involved in supporting a project we allow teams to focus and succeed. In many cases, this allows us to aggregate the benefits of community contributions and circulate the benefit back into the community.
OS Hackathon is one of the first WATERCHaNGE hosted projects. The org receives the resources it needs to operate through a partnership network and also solicits contributions and memberships for support through Open Collective. WATERCHaNGE has an established relationship with Fluid Numerics and together they are operating OCEAN, an Open Collective funded resource suited to meet the computing needs of communities like OS Hackathon.
